Pathway Progression
In Singapore, students who have completed their IGCSE O-levels can progress to various pathways depending on their goals and academic achievements. Here are some possible pathways:
Junior College:
Students who have performed well in their O-levels can choose to enrol in a Junior College (JC) for a two-year pre-university course. This will prepare them for the GCE A-level examinations, which will determine their eligibility for admission into local universities.
International Baccalaureate:
Some international schools in Singapore offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma programme, which is a two-year pre-university course that prepares students for university education. The IB is recognised by universities worldwide and emphasises critical thinking, research skills, and community service.
Polytechnic:
Students who prefer a more hands-on and vocational approach can choose to enrol in a Polytechnic for a three-year diploma course. Polytechnics offer a wide range of courses in fields such as business, engineering, design, and health sciences, among others. Upon completion, students can choose to enter the workforce or pursue further studies in a university.
Private Schools:
Some private schools in Singapore offer various courses and programmes that cater to the needs of students who have completed their IGCSE O-levels. These schools may offer diploma or degree programmes that are recognized locally or internationally.
Institute of Technical Education:
Students who are interested in acquiring technical skills and practical knowledge can enrol in an Institute of Technical Education (ITE) for a two- or three-year course leading to a National ITE Certificate. They can then enter the workforce or pursue further studies in a polytechnic.
Further Education Outside Singapore:
Students who have completed their IGCSE O-level outside Singapore may choose to pursue their A-levels, the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme, or vocational training in their home country or in another country.
