In the modern business landscape, there is a dangerous myth: that once you’ve launched a successful company, your days as a student are over. Jenny Cinco is here to shatter that illusion.
As a seasoned business owner, Jenny was already managing the complexities of 24-hour operations in her home country. Yet, she felt a pull toward something more, a need to ground her "on-the-ground" experience in world-class management theory. We sat down with her in the vibrant halls of Academies Australasia College (AAC) to discuss her journey from the helm of her company to the classrooms of Singapore.
Part I: The Catalyst for Change
The Interviewer: Jenny, it’s wonderful to speak with you. You’ve had a successful run as an entrepreneur. What exactly pushed you to step away from the daily grind of your business to pursue a Diploma in Business Management?
Jenny Cinco: Hello! It’s great to be here. You know, back home, I’ve learned a lot by just doing. I have my own business, and I have the experience that comes with that. But I reached a point where I realized I wanted to improve, not just survive, but truly improve. My business requires 24-hour monitoring, especially on the operational side. To handle that kind of pressure and scale it up, I needed a more advanced level of knowledge. I chose AAC because I knew I needed to take those next steps professionally.
The Insight: Jenny is hitting on what we call the "Entrepreneurial Pivot." Many leaders hit a ceiling where intuition is no longer enough to manage complex logistics. Formal education provides the frameworks, like Lean Management or Strategic Operations, that turn a "hands-on" owner into a high-level executive.
Part II: Why the "Lion City" is the Ultimate Classroom?
The Interviewer: You could have studied anywhere. Why Singapore? What was the draw for you personally?
Jenny: There were two big reasons. First, the academic reputation. Everyone knows that Singapore’s education system is world-class; they are at the top of the global rankings. If you want the best training, you come here.
But on a personal level, this was my first time in Singapore! People told me it was an expensive country, but I wanted to figure out the culture for myself. I wanted the food, the people, and the community. What I found was an incredibly open country. It doesn't matter if you are Indian, Sri Lankan, or Southeast Asian, there is no judgment based on your nationality. As long as you follow the law, it is a very safe and fun place to stay and study.
Part III: The AAC Experience – Beyond the Books
The Interviewer: Let’s talk about the vibe at the college. Is it just lectures and exams, or is there something more to the "AAC Life"?
Jenny: Oh, it’s much more than just books. It’s actually very fun! One of the best parts is the diversity. We have so many nationalities here, especially from across Southeast Asia. You aren't just learning from a textbook; you’re learning how to collaborate with people from different backgrounds. We all engage with each other, we become friends, and we help each other through the modules.
The Interviewer: And the classroom dynamic? I’ve heard the teachers here have a unique approach.
Jenny: They really do. In class, some students can be quite shy about speaking up or sharing their opinions. But the teachers are so friendly. They give us the time we need to think about our answers. They don’t just lecture at us; they guide us on how to approach a question and encourage us to express our own thoughts.
The Insight: This Collaborative Pedagogy is crucial. By removing the traditional "lecturer-student" barrier, AAC creates a safe space for "Intellectual Risk-Taking." For a business leader, the ability to express a unique opinion and defend it is a vital skill.
Part IV: The Next Frontier – Moving into Leadership
The Interviewer: We’ve just heard some exciting news! You've decided to continue your journey here at AAC by enrolling in the Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management. What inspired you to take this even higher step?
Jenny: Yes, I’m very excited! The Diploma gave me the "how-to" of business operations, but as my business grows, I realize I need to move from being a manager to being a true leader. The Advanced Diploma focuses on high-level strategy, leading teams, and organizational development.
I want to learn how to inspire my staff back home and make big-picture decisions that aren't just about day-to-day tasks, but about the long-term vision of my company. Staying at AAC for this was an easy choice because I already trust the lecturers and the environment. I know that by the time I finish this, I’ll be returning to my business not just with a certificate, but with a completely different mindset.
The Insight: This progression is a classic example of the Leadership Pipeline. While a standard Diploma focuses on Management (doing things right), an Advanced Diploma focuses on Leadership (doing the right things). For entrepreneurs like Jenny, this transition is the difference between owning a job and leading an enterprise.
Part V: Breaking the Barriers to Entry
The Interviewer: Many people worry about the financial and emotional stress of studying abroad. How does the college help alleviate those fears?
Jenny: This is a big point. AAC is very accommodating, especially with money. If a student can’t pay for a whole package upfront, they offer installment plans. That’s a huge relief when you are also trying to manage your daily necessities.
And then there’s the support from the staff. You don't feel that distance between yourself and the lecturers. They are so approachable. If you’re struggling with a topic, you can just talk to them or send an email. They will stay with you and guide you until you understand. They want you to have the success you’re looking for.
The Takeaway: Your Future is a Strategic Choice
Jenny Cinco’s story isn't just about a diploma or a degree; it’s about refinement. She took the raw material of her entrepreneurial spirit and brought it to Singapore to be polished by global standards. Her experience proves that with the right community, one that values diversity, financial accessibility, and mentorship, anyone can bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be.
As Jenny says, "They will guide you until you have the success that you want."
